The Vynleads Grand Challenge: Durable Health
Our long-term research mission is to make durable metabolic-health improvement predictable, testable, and affordable under real-world constraints. Most people already know what to do; what they lack is support that survives ordinary life.
The Durable Health Problem
The question on the wall at Vynleads: what is the least burdensome support that makes a meaningful health improvement last? For a defined population, a specified health goal, and a set of safe interventions, can we identify the lowest-cost, lowest-burden support strategy that sustains improvement through ordinary life disruptions such as schedule changes, travel, caregiving, illness, financial stress, poor sleep, and loss of motivation?
Three systems to understand
- Biological response: does the intervention actually improve health? App activity alone is not evidence of health improvement.
- Practical feasibility: can the person realistically carry it out in their actual life? If the plan is infeasible, change the plan rather than blaming the person.
- Durability: what support keeps the benefit alive and helps people recover after disruption?
Three hard questions
Can we measure the behavioral state that matters without exhausting the person? Can we distinguish who is at risk from who will actually respond to a particular support? Can what we learn transfer across populations, settings, and organizations?
The hard technical core: causal simulation that earns trust
Our World Model already simulates synthetic lives with friction, setbacks, dropout, and return. The scientific challenge is to move from plausible simulation to validated causal prediction: can the simulator predict an intervention effect before the outcome of an independent real-world study is known, and can it say when it does not have enough evidence to extrapolate? Strong simple baselines must be beaten; complexity alone is not a scientific achievement.
How we would know
Four increasingly difficult milestones: win a prediction test with independently held-out data, win a decision test against a strong comparison program with equivalent resources, win a transfer test across independently evaluated programs, and only then connect behavior to clinical benefit under appropriate research design and medical oversight.
The first tractable research question
What helps people recover a beneficial routine after life disrupts it? The research must distinguish resuming the health behavior from opening the app. A "What Works for Me" personal lifestyle lab is being explored as a possible first member-facing step, and an honest uncertain answer is a valid result.
Research stays separate from product use
Members do not automatically become research participants. Research requires explicit informed consent, separate enrollment, privacy controls, withdrawal, data minimization, governance, appropriate IRB review where required, and independent oversight.
Governing principles
Human outcomes over app activity. Durability over short-term engagement. Causal effect over correlation. Evidence over assumption. Low burden over unnecessary complexity. Independent validation. Transparent uncertainty. Strong simple baselines. Human support when human support works better. Privacy by design. Explicit research consent. Synthetic results are never assumed to equal human outcomes. Replication before broad claims. Affordability as a research constraint. Transfer must be demonstrated.

Make durable health improvement less dependent on luck, wealth, access, and trial-and-error.
